Er’indoors, Mrs Lapagemade, and I set off really early to get to The Green at Hampton Court. To find our spot and set-up our props so to show our wares off as we had planned. I think we hit every bit of traffic from deepest darkest Lincolnshire to downtown Surrey. It took 4 instead of 3 hours and it decided to be the hottest day in September for something like 50 years. Nothing stopped us doing our thing, no one was going to get in our way, nothing was going to foil our plans…. “Erm, what do you think if we, erm, just change this to that” she said! “Yep, why not?” I said, the stand being out on its head and changing it all about. I wasn’t bothered, it was all er’indoors ideas to make it look pretty any way.
We were done. Our stall was set out. Day 0 was done. Day 1 tomorrow.
We met so many nice people (that was just me really, having a cheeky look around the actual Palace. Dave was great. If you go around the back way, you see an unlocked gate). Lots of different people with their stands and their little helpers. A few stand people asking if they could have signs engraved for next year, producers wanting little labels for their wares, fantastic. Even a manager of the events company bought a large board from me.
Our stand wasn’t the smallest but it was by no means large. 3 sq. meters isnt alot of space you know. It was either me or er’indoors. We took it in turns to stand to attention and have our best smiling faces on. Half an hour intervals each. In the off periods we took a well deserved sit down outside, to have a great cup of coffee at the Landy Girls converted Land Rover Coffee stall. Best coffee there!
Every time I went back on-duty something had sold, Er’indoors doing her thing and selling a variety of things.
A favourite with people were the Fork Handles/Four Candles candle holders. They even caught the eye of Kirstie Allsopp, who said unprovoked that she loved them. The hightlight of the weekend. Not exactly a selfie because Er’indoors took it.
Shortly after shaking her hand, it was 6 o clock on the final day. Time to pack up. I went to get the van and trailer, along with everyone else! I took the time again to say hello to Roger (the Crowd Control/Head Secruity Gaurd) and he let me through to the front, perfect. Thank you Roger.
We had a fabulous long weekend up that their mucky London. Thankyou to all the in-laws for their prep work before hand and for coming for 2 of the 3 days. It was great to see the Binns’s and Andrew & Sarah.
